User names and passwords

  • Unknown's avatar

If I want someone just to see my blog that I’m working on just to get their opinion how can I give them a new user name and password without them knowing mine so that they have their own way into the site without being able to edit or adding or deleting anything? The person does not have a WordPress account and I don’t honestly think that they want one either. They just want to be able to see what I am doing with the blog. This is probably a crazy question and maybe I missed something in the Support pages at this point, but I really don’t want to change any user or password settings at this point.

PS: Sorry I don’t have a Gravatar yet I just haven’t gotten that far.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The person would need a WordPress.com account in order for you to give them access when you have your blog marked as private. Once they’ve created an account, they can view your site at http://rhphotographics.wordpress.com/ and click on the request access link. If you need to set a role set them as a Contributor. They won’t be able to publish anything without your approval at that level.

To add to what staked said: a person can create a WordPress.com without necessarily creating a blog too.

Thank you for your help. I’m actually close to completion on the blog and at that time I’ll make it Public so they can look at it without all the hassle.

    Thanks again

You can use the option on draft posts called “Request Feedback” to let anyone of your choice to look before publishing. I’m not sure it works once a post or page is published, but I have used it successfully with several people who had no WordPress accounts.

If you don’t see the module called “Writing Helper” then click on “Screen Options” (currently on the upper right corner of the edit post section) to make it visible.

Here is the Support documentation about “Request Feedback”
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/request-feedback/

But as I said, I don’t know if it works once a post or page is already published. Haven’t tried that myself…

Thanks 1tess, excellent advise and I just tested it and it works very well. FYI
