from what i can gather, if i want to restrict access to my blog through some kind of registration process I cannot use wordpress.com?
pitty, as I may now need to cancel this whole wordpress project.Basically, I want a blog type site, and the wordpress format is just fine. But I do need to make sure that users who come to my blog and access certain things will have to pre-register.
Did I make the wrong choice? I need a user-reg form + captcha. Can someone help?

You can set a WordPress.com site to be private and only allow access to those who you invite. But anything more complicated than that is not really feasible here.
