-
Can you please explain what roles Administrators, Editors, Authors and Contributors have? I want to invite a WordPress user to help me make my site but want to know which role to give them when inviting them.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello @writer0001
I hope you are doing well today!
Summary of Roles # Summary of Roles
–Super Admin – somebody with access to the site network administration features and all other features. See the Create a Network article.
–Administrator (slug: ‘administrator’) – somebody who has access to all the administration features within a single site.
–Editor (slug: ‘editor’) – somebody who can publish and manage posts including the posts of other users.
–Author (slug: ‘author’) – somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
–Contributor (slug: ‘contributor’) – somebody who can write and manage their own posts but cannot publish them.
–Subscriber (slug: ‘subscriber’) – somebody who can only manage their profile.
Please check this article of roles-and-capabilities/
Just read it and you will understand completely every role and capability.
Personally if you want somebody who can publish and manage their own posts.
You can give him/her an Author roleBest regards,

Hi there,
You can see the different user roles that exist on WordPress.com and what the permissions are of each here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
Always give someone only the minimum role they need for what they have to be able to do, and keep in mind that anyone you make an admin can do anything, including completely deleting your site.

Are Authors able to edit public posts that they did not create? I.e. if I were to create a post, would an Author of my site be able to edit it, or can they only edit their own posts?

Authors can write, upload photos to, edit, and publish their own posts only. SO no, they will not be able to modify yours :)
