user seeing "please enter a username or email address" with right name

Admin user is seeing the above when using WordPress.com Login despite using the correct username, an ID that she’s happily used since I set it up in January 2016. I think she said that it started early last week, approx 6 days ago. She gets this issue in IE 11(she’s sent me the full version, and I’m happy it’s current, if not the latest), BUT she doesn’t get it in Microsoft Edge. I can happily use the same ID in IE 11, Chrome and Edge, so I’m guessing this is some sort of an esoteric local Windows-version issue peculiar to her machine, perhaps following a Windows update, but I’m yet to find anything mentioned at all on this forum, WordPress Support or when generally Googling the error message. Has anybody seen the like of this ?

Supernovia: thanks for coming back. She isn’t actually using an email address: just the ID I set her up with (‘baschurchadm’). I don’t think she’s actually aware of the email I used to set up that user in the first place. She’s quite un-tech-y, and doesn’t habitually use Edge – although she had enough curiosity to try that out. I will chase her for an update (-she hasn’t yet got back to see if a new user I gave her also gave the same issue). I cannot discount a typo or trailing space: will try to pop around to see what she’s typing.
