username

  • Unknown's avatar

I am attempting to change my username. The username I would like appears to already be taken. I posted a comment on a blog a few days ago (before I created an account by using my gmail account) and put the username I wanted in the ‘name’ line – did that affect the availability of the username I would like?

Is there a way for me to find and contact the owner of the taken username?

No, the Name field is your name and it will not be converted to username.

If a certain username is not available, it likely means that it has been taken up by someone else, or could be registered to a different email ID you own.

If it’s registered to a different email ID you own, you can try using the WordPress.com forgot password form https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword and enter the username. A password reset link will be sent to the registered email ID that you can use to reset the password.

No, to protect the privacy of users, WordPress.com does not disclose the contact information of users.

I hope this helps clarify things. Feel free to get back if you have questions related to WordPress.com account and WordPress.com sites and I will be keen on helping you through it!

  • Hi there,

What is the username you’re trying to use? If a username has ever been registered on WordPress.com it won’t be available for re-use. And if anyone already owns the *.wordpress.com address that matches the username, the username is reserved for the owner of that site, and you won’t be able to use it.
