  Hello, I want to take over the username that has not been actively used for a long time. I would be very happy if you could help me with this. Thanks.

  Hi there,

  Only the current owner of a username can transfer that username to someone else, and the only way to do that is if they updated the account email address to yours, which would allow you to reset the password and take over the account.

  It’s not possible to change your username to another username that already exists, and we don’t transfer existing usernames to someone else under any circumstances. We specifically do not reassign or disable usernames due to inactivity.

  If you want a particular name but the username itself is unavailable, you can always just update your public display name instead. Display names don’t need to be unique, and can be whatever you want it to be, even including spaces, punctuation or emoji.
