Username Change 'Name Taken'

    How long does it take for a previous username, when deleted, to become available for usage again?

    I had an abandoned email holding onto a desired username. I recovered the info to log in, did so, and changed the username to hopefully make the one it originally had available. Logging into modern, updated email and trying to secure the desired username results in ‘that name taken’ message, despite the fact I just removed it from being tied to an outdated email.
    Please advise if there’s a waiting term, or a process that needs to be followed. Thanks.

    WordPress.com does not recycle blog URLs/names. Once a certain URL (blog) is deleted, it is gone forever.

    Thank you for providing this, however, the link provided details why *blog* names are not recycled. I’m speaking to *user* names.

    Any help?

    @ahtchuu
    This is a dead end. If you wish you can contact Staff on Monday, December 12th and hear that from them when they open the support link after the weekend.

    Usernames (accounts) are never deleted. There is no way to delete them. Once a person signs up, that account/username they created never disappears from the system.
