Username not available

  I want to change my username to ‘soberbanda’ but I see that it has already been taken. I tried searching but found no one with that username. Is there anything that can be done to help me retrieve that username?

  Hi there,

  If the system shows that the username is unavailable, then there is no other way to have it even if you don’t see it being used by anyone. What it simply means is that someone at some point used the username and maybe changed it to something else. In situations like that, the username will not be available to anyone else even if its no longer being used. You can read more on this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/change-your-username/

  Hey @therefoiam,

  The username did belong to me before I deleted the account 3 years back. I was told that I could recover within 30 days. For some reason, I chose not to back then. I read the policy but I don’t agree with it. I understand that WordPress might have security concerns but I feel its more essential to let us recover our accounts any time we want than to put up restrictions.

  I hope they change it in future.
