Username not in use but unavailable

    Hello! I am going to change my username to a name that matches with my medium and tweeter accounts. I checked it and it is not using by anyone, however, the site said it is unavailable. Can a staff re-open this name for me? Thanks.

    Hi mranthonychow,
    For the username to be available it should not be used previously, or there should not be any blog using the username. Also, if a new site is created (URL) under a non-matching username, the username that matches that site is then locked out so that someone cannot get the username associated with that particular blog/site and cause confusion or misunderstandings.
    If you can check username.wordpress.com and see if there is a blog already, you won’t be able to get the username.

    What is the username you’re trying to use?

    As @pavanraheja indicated, if anyone had used the name previously, or if the name is unused but matching a blog URL that already exist, you won’t be able to use the username. We cannot re-assign such a username to you under any circumstances.
