Username recovery

I had accidentally created two accounts a while ago. At the time, I closed the later one, as I had already been using the former one. However, I now want to use the username of the latter one. I have the activation email from the closed account however the account recovery form said it was invalid (which is probably because the account was already activated and then deleted? not sure). Any help would be appreciated, and I’m happy to do anything else to facilitate.

Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use.

Hi there, if you registered a second username account, instead of using the change username utility that @mrsnlchauhan mentioned, and you deleted it within the last 30 days, please reply to the email you received from WordPress.com following its deletion.
If it’s been longer than 30 days since you deleted the second username account, it won’t be possible to recover that username.
