Username Taken but Not In Use?
-
The username I want isn’t available, but the blog has been deleted. How can I obtain it?
-
You don’t – once a blog name is deleted it is gone forever – names are not recycled at WordPress.COM

You cannot recover or register any deleted blog URL. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent and irreversible. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and it must be clicked to delete a blog. If clicking that link does not work then copy and paste it into your upper browser window and click. Once the verification link for deletion is clicked the blog URL is forever gone, gone, gone.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

I know about the cycle of deleting a blog. I’m simply saying before I’ve deleted a blog and now someone else is using that name. Thank you all for your help though! I’ll try to see if I can contact the former owners or something or maybe even contact WordPress directly.

I have been here several years and the delete is gone forever has been that policy for many years – other places do allow recycling of names and some even delete your site if you don’t post often enough

Hm. Then I’m not sure. Like I said, it’s happened to me. Maybe they hacked an old account of mine, but I doubt it. Thanks for all the help though!!
