Username Unintentionally Changed, Need it Back
-
My username has been changed. This was not intentional nor desired. I know after trying to figure out how to fix it that it’s not supposed to be fixable. However, I would like to propose that there be some sort of way to fix this, considering that things happen. If it’s supposed to be to protect identity, perhaps WordPress could send an email after a username is changed, to make sure that it was intended by the account and not done either by accident or by a hacker.
Again, I know that currently there’s apparently no way to recover a username. If there are any engineers out there working for WordPress, please take note that honest mistakes like this happen and there needs to be some way to rectify them.

Hi there,
Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for you or anyone to use. This is how our systems are designed and there’s nothing we can do about it.
Alternatively, you can change your display name by going to:

For a simple (free) wordpress.com account, it is not possible, however if you are using an administration tool like phpMyAdmin, your username as well as password can be changed from there.

@stanstan84, what you suggest only applies to self-hosted WordPress sites. It doesn’t apply to sites hosted on WordPress.com.
