username – who owns mine?
-
I tried to use WP to be able to leave a comment on a website that lists WP as a website (http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/) to use to make comments. It asked for my WP username, I gave it and got this message: You do not own that identity.
Well – if I don’t own it who does? I used it today to sign into WP. -
http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/ is not a WordPress.COM site. It’s a WordPress.ORG site and you need to register at that site itself for a username. It won’t recognize your WordPress.com username.

I registered with the site, it did no task for a user name, only an email and a password. Then, after signing in, I tried to leave a comment thru WP and got the same error. It still will not accept my WP user name. Error is from : https://socialize.us1.gigya.com/socialize.login?x_temporary_account=true&x_provider=wordpress&x_lang=en&x_source=showCommentsUI&x_sourceData=%7B%22categoryID%22%3A%22News%22%2C%22streamID%22%3A%22blog-comments-26127%22%7D&client_id=3_9lzrxJh-GQofXtoOq-ADFDpwOla0DXKJOvVl_KnlZPjeuRyBKYHjyaA2UYgGvXGv&redirect_uri=%2FGS%2FAfterLogin.aspx&response_type=server_token&format=jsonp&x_sdk=js_5.1.3&state=domain%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fletterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com%252F2014%252F07%252Fdo-the-math-on-housing-residents-in-subsidized-apartments-are-your-neighbors.html%252F%26id%3Dsocialize_login_14052609085521405260908552%26lid%3Dflid1405260624963%26messaging%3D1&authMode=cookie

We do not provide support for any sites like http://letterstotheeditorblog.dallasnews.com/ that are not hosted by WordPress.COM. You are posting to the wrong support forum and we cannot help you.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

I am now registered with wp.org. Now I am registered and signed in with wp.com, wp.org and dallasnews. I still get this message when I try to comment on a dallasnews article using wp (which is listed as an option for leaving comments):
“You do not own that identity.”
The message is coming from wp.com
Really getting confused. -
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have different logins http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Log out of WordPress.COM and clear your browser cache and cookies.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/ Then log in under your WordPress.ORG username login. -
Dallas News does not accept a WordPress anything ID – only – Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, Google+, Microsoft & yahoo
I also doubt that anybody would use a WordPress.ORG ID for leaving comments
-
You be welcome – I have ran into the ID thing a several times in the past where they required ID I don’t have
-
Logged out of WordPress.COM and cleared your browser cache and cookies and tried dallasnews again, got this message:
“You need to sign in
You need to sign in to WordPress.com to complete this process.
You should use a bookmark or type in the address to do this. This page does not contain any links, to protect you from phishing.”

I signed into .com and got this message:
“You do not own that identity.”
I think dallasnews has a problem and that auxclass is right. Thanks to all of you for your help. I have given up on dallasnews! -
They do have a letter to the editor you can use to complain about their policy – or most sites have a website problems form
-
FWIW, signing in to WordPress.com to leave a comment is one of the options available on that site (use the + sign), but the party to contact is of course dallasnews, not WPcom.
