  Why can’t I put a period (.) in my username? The majority of websites let you have periods in your username (e.g., Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.). Why not in WordPress?

  Usernames relate to sites here, like https://mdwellerevcc.wordpress.com/ so md.wellerevcc.wordpress.com would not be possible.

  Although, I thought a username could be different from the sub-domain.

  No, we directly relate usernames to site names here. There’s no limit to how many site names you can have under one username, but once taken, a site name cannot be used as a username.
