Usernames
-
I signed up for a blog, and the username I chose was accepted. But when I actually got to the part where you create the blog I find that I cannot use this username for a blog without having to have numbers attached. This is ridiculous. Why are you allowing people to sign up for a username, and then not allowing them to use it? If I remember rightly previously when signing up for a blog on wordpress, if a username was already taken, you couldn’t get any further until you chose a username that was actually available. So I have now created an account with the username I wanted for a blog, but I can’t have the blog without numbers attached to the URL, because obviously the username I chose is actually already taken. You are being deceitful and letting people believe they have their chosen username when it’s not so. I do not want a blog URL with letters after the name, so I now have this account simply because you are deceitful and you know that if someone can’t have their chosen URL they will go elsewhere, so you lure them in and hope they won’t notice the added numbers on the URL when they get to add the blog. Utterly ridiculous.

Hi there,
If I remember rightly previously when signing up for a blog on wordpress, if a username was already taken, you couldn’t get any further until you chose a username that was actually available
That should still be the case. The blog address is connected to the username, so you cannot create an address unless you own the associated username. As the message states, when you visit https://wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=anonmousy, the site cannot be created because it is reserved for your username.
I just logged into your account and tried to create a site and was able to pull up the option to choose the associated URL for your username:

Is this in reference to a different username? If so, let me know, and I will gladly check that one as well. But,anonmousyis available for you to register as a site URL.
Thanks! -
I don’t understand. I was allowed to progress as far as putting in the blog URL. The username does not have any numbers in it. It is just “anonmousy” but I cannot have a blog URL titled “anonmousy” it will only give me “anonmousy1” or “anonmousy0” Why would that be happening for me, but not for you?

OK panic over. I take back all my irate words in my first comment section. This is not a good start is it? I have now managed to get the blog URL the same as my username. I had to log out clear my browser, and then log back in and when I tried again it worked. I am sorry for being antsy to begin with but it was annoying me not being able to get a blog to match my username. Thank you for trying to help even though the problem may have been at my end. Sorry.

Oh, no worries at all. Totally understand. Glad that you were able to get it sorted. Feel free to reach out again with any other questions you may have.
Thanks!
