Users accept Invitation to a private blog but it does not regester = no access
-
Hello,
I’m writing in regards to an issue I’m having with a private study blog.
Some users have no trouble accepting the invitation and gaining access to the blog, others accept the invitation then are not granted access.
On the back end of the blog when I look in the users /invites section it indicates that for certain users we are still waiting a reply from the invitation, when those users have replied and been informed via email they have access, then can’t access the site.
It sound like a similar issue to the one that is discussed in this topic
Some users are able to view the blog but can not contribute, some just can’t get access at all. I wish for all users i invite to be author’s and i have invited them as such, but this does not seem to be happening.
Here is a list of the users who are having trouble gaining access

I’m not clear if this thread fell through the cracks or if the issue has been resolved. I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

Hi,
I have not been able to resolve this issue and now I have 35 out of the 50 students that are part of the private study group who are unable to access the blog due to the issue i stated above.
I tried requesting with some students that they copy and paste the bottom link in the invitation into their browser and then log in to word press as stated in another forum i found. When i tried this with my own secondary account I was able to access the blog but it was unsuccessful for the student having trouble access the blog.
I remember reading in another thread if that if a large number of invitations are sent out those recipients could be marked as spam and denied access.
Could this possibly be the case?
If so what is the fix?
There was a large number of Invitations sent out, like about 40 on one day. All were sent out as Authors.
Could there possibly be a setting I have turned on or off that is creating the issue?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

I deal with this on a regular basis with my students. I do 20-30 at a time at least 10 times a year. In past year have had fewer problems now that I cracked down on the issues.
Have them check their email spam and search for WordPress to ensure they got the invite. It often gets lost in the shuffle.
Make sure the email and user name are correct. It often isn’t.
It has nothing to do with the user role or the number of invites, though you could do them in smaller batches, but that’s not the issue.
In the end I always find out that the student gave me the wrong username or email address, one they didn’t use with WordPress.com or from a different user account.
If all else fails, I just hit resend and tell them to jump to their email immediately. This usually works.
In six years or more of doing this, there have been bugs along the way with the system, but lately it has been pretty solid, if the user issues don’t get in the way. :D
Glad you are using WordPress for your students! Good for you.

Just as a note, I do not do private blogs. I don’t know if it helps, but I have the students go to Reading > Settings and set the option to not allow search engines to index the site. It keeps the site “private” from the eyes of the public so no one can see the site unless stumbled upon or given a direct link to the site. It makes it much easier to access and grade for the students and the teachers, too, as they don’t have to log into the private site separately.
Hope that helps.

Hi Lorelle,
I have had successes going through the whole process of signing up to wordpress and making sure they go through the accepting of the invitation clearly and then signing in to wordpress straight after. So thank you for your tips.
Still having trouble with a couple of students even after i had set up a wordpress for them. So it must have something to do with them accepting the invitation.
For the rest of the students i think i will just have to get in touch one by one and go through the whole process with them. I sent around a how to pdf but it seems that it has not been followed.
In regards to the private nature your suggestion sounds much easier but the blog is as such that it must be private. There are Documents that need to be private on the blog and unfortunately it must stay private.
Thanks very much for your tips!

Hi there,
I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you had inviting your students to the blog. If you’re still having trouble with a couple of students, I’d be happy to help with that. Can you let me know which students are still having trouble accepting the invitation?
