Users accepted invite but are not showing up on author option list.

Hello, I’m the admin for the Ancillary Review of Books; we regularly invite new users (as contributors) and set them as the authors of individual posts. Just this week, I’m seeing something very odd that I can’t figure out: multiple people have accepted the invite, I can see them in the list of users on the dashboard, but I cannot set them as the author of a post when editing. In some cases, the username does not appear at all in the author box; in others, it appears for a second before vanishing.
Here for instance is one user who has accepted:
But does not show up as an option in the authoring section of a post, under either “samreader” or “@frankscenario”.
Contributor “Emily” / eaprice96 is even stranger, when I begin typing “Emily” into the author box I can briefly see the username, but then it vanishes.
Any help appreciated, this is interrupting our publishing schedule.

I was able to recreate the issue, and I have submitted a bug report to our development team so they can take a look. In the meantime, I was able to find a workaround so we can get your site back on schedule.
It is possible to add each of the users you shared as the post author using the Classic Post view in the dashboard. To do so, visit Posts > All Posts. Then, in the upper right-hand corner of your site, select View > Classic View. Now, under a new post you have created, you will see new options, including Quick Edit. I added a Test post to your site so you can play with these settings. After selecting Quick Edit, you will see the option Author, which will have a full dropdown menu with all your users. It’s a little less intuitive, but it has every member of your site. After you have selected the author, click Update, and they will be assigned the author of the post.
