Users are able to see Admin area, Dashboard, etc. !!!

Help!! I am confused as to why users who I have set up as Contributors are able to see my Dashboard and Admin areas. I dont understand how to send people to my Blog site. I thought I could just set them up as Contributors, give them my site address and give them the User name and Password and when they logged in they would be “Contributors” and not able to change anything on my site. I dont understand the ‘Invitation” process either. I want to just give my Blog address to 10 or so people, have them go the Blog, read it, make comments and thats all. Seems so simple.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

First off can we get a link to your blog starting with http:// ?
Also, is the blog set to private?

Do not set them as Contributors: that’s for people who write blog posts. Just set them as Users.

Thanks for the reply.
But when I try to set up “Users” it asks for a type of user. Like “Administrator”, “author”, “Contributor”, etc. I dont understand.

When you invite people to your blog, just use the Invitation function, do not give them special status. That makes them Users.
All you need to do is list their WP.com usernames and they’ll be allowed in automatically.

So I cant just tell someone to look at my Blog.? I need to go through that cumbersome “Invitation” process and they need to sign up at WordPress.com??
Seems awkward.

If you do not care whether or not your blog is Private, then just make your blog public and tell people to read your blog. Do not set them as Contributors or Invite them or anything.

I think I will just try to make it “Public”. Thanks for the replies you guys ! I appreciate the help.
