Users do not display

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m the site administrator and have invited a user with authoring privileges who has accepted the invitation. The user can log-in and edit the blog, but I cannot see her in the admin control panel (all users) or even find her in a search using the username she has confirmed is correct.

I also invited myself using a different email address than the one with which I signed up for my wordpress account. Having accepted the invitation, I don’t see my other self either.

    What am I doing wrong?

I used the “invite new” user function following the instructions.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there, Natalie,

For the site, whatnataliethinks.wordpress.com, I am only seeing you a user. I do see a pending Author invitation for another user. However, it has not yet been confirmed. I am going to resend the invitation now.

The status of that invitation can be seen here:
    https://whatnataliethinks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php?page=wpcom-invite-users

Once the user confirms membership to your site, they should appear under Users of your site. Could you please follow up with me and let me know how this goes?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

The invitation has been sent (and resent) 3 times, and accepted each time. I’ve been through the forums and spent several hours reading all possible solutions, including deleting the invitation and resending new.

Having accepted the last invitation and despite failure for status of the invitation to have changed, the user CAN LOG INTO THE SITE and perform actions for which she’s authorized. Still, I cannot see or manage the user through the admin controls.

    What should happen unfortunately isn’t.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey Natalie,

I do want to check out this other user’s account in order to investigate further. I don’t want to make his/her email or account information public, so I’m moving our discussion to a private email. Please keep an eye out, and respond with the user’s WordPress.com user name, and email address.

    Thanks so much!

I Robyn. Thanks for replying I sent you a private email last night and just wanted to check to see if you received it.

Outside of the personal information, I wanted to know if:

    1. someone MUST have a wordpress.com to become a user — who can also be managed through a wordpress.com control panel
    2. I found an old wordpress.com post from 2006 that said one could become a user “sans blog” but don’t see how that works in the current sign-up process.

    thank you

Hi Natalie — I did answer your private email. Thanks for following up!

You sure did! Thanks very much.

So the resolution (duh) is that to be viewed and managed in the WP control panel, users must be wordpresss members. They can sign up to become members without having a blog (sans blog or web site) by following your instructions:

“Your contributor can go to https://wordpress.com and click Log In, instead of Create Website. When asked to login, there is a link below the login box that says “register.” Click that link. Instructions will be clear after that.”

Thanks for your prompt and thorough replies!
