Using a href='path/x'

How do I download a pdf (or other) file using HTML commands? When I try to download a pdf file, the download is redirected to a media page which displays the file to be downloaded. When I click on the displayed image, I get a download prompt. I would like to bypass displaying the pdf in a media page and directly get a download prompt.

  • Hi there, are you trying to download directly from your media library? The page you’re seeing after you click on a PDF (or other file) should allow you to do more than just download it. For example, you can crop images, change settings, delete the file…

If you’re just looking to download things in bulk, I’d recommend using the export media tool instead.

And, if I’ve misunderstood completely, could you send a link to the page you’re downloading from?

I am not doing a bulk download. Check out Monthly Data and dispute for examples of what I would like to do.

  • Hi there,

I checked your site and it appears you’re in the wrong forum. Although your site is connected to WordPress.com via Jetpack, it is using the open-source WordPress.org software and you need to seek help at these forums:

    https://wordpress.org/support/forums

These forums are for WordPress.com hosted sites only. Since we do not have access to self-hosted WordPress.org sites, we are unable to provide any direct assistance to your issue. I would also reach out to your site host for help.

If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org you can read this document:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Thanks!
