Using a new theme for current wordpress site

  I have a new client who has an existing website, built with WordPress. They want me to build a completely new site with a new theme. What is the best way to do this?

  Also, is the old site here or with a different hosting provider?

  I’d recommend exporting the old site, and importing it to a new staging site. Do not add the custom domain option until everything is ready. That way your current site can stay “live” until then.

  I do recommend getting a plan earlier on if you’ll need it, since they have other features you might find useful, including direct support:
  https://wordpress.com/plans

  Then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready, and then you can map or transfer the domain.
