Using a renewed domain name on this site

We have a situation on paid site where I am a co admin. It’s possible the site owner may have passed, and the subscription has expired. One of the members was able to renew the domain name, but as we know, there, we would have to start over.
My question, if I can state it correctly, can we use the renewed domain name on this host, and start over from scratch, without having to pay again for the domain? We are all confused here, as this all happened unexpectedly…..

Are you asking if you can start a blog here on WordPress.com using your existing domain name?

If you are Admin on a site you can export the contents you want to save and import it to a new blog

Is the original site still up and running? Was it built using wordPress.ORG software? Can the original content be exported in a format which can then be used here on wp.COM?
