Using a subdomain on another host?

    Hi there,

    I have a domain registered through 1 and 1 and pointed it to wordpress for my main blog. But we are now trying to point a sub domain to a different server to setup a small shop which is meant to be seperate to the blog.

    I can’t make any changes to the cname settings on the 1 and 1 interface for a subdomain so need to do this through wordpress.

    I tried setting up an A record for shop.katzenworld.co.uk to point to the IP address of that hosting provider but it doesn’t seem to work?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Marc,

    I just took a look at your DNS and it looks like everything is set up fine for the A record to work OK. And in fact I just went to shop.katzenworld.co.uk and I got a default web page, so it looks like your server is responding OK as well. You just need to go in and build your site out.

    If it wasn’t working previously, you may just have been running up against some propagation problems. Remember that any change to DNS (especially things like adding subdomains) can take several hours. Less time with .coms and .nets, but other extensions can still take a while.
