Using a wordpress domain name?
-
I changed the URL for a blog I had (DIYLibrary.wordpress.com > unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com), falsely thinking it would change the title of the blog. When it didn’t, I changed the url back to DIYLibrary.wordpress.com and deleted the blog (it was empty anyway), but now I can’t create a new blog using the unicorninthelibrary.wordpress URL. I try to create a blog by typing in that url, and get an error message that it already exists (since it obviously does). Is there a way to fix this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
This is a duplicate thread. I answered the first one 4 days ago at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/have-url-how-to-create-blog-with-it?replies=3#post-2182325 Please go there and read my answer. -
Yes, thank you, I saw your reply. I appreciate the effort, but it didn’t answer my question completely. I am not trying to use the url that was attached to the blog I deleted, but a url that was unattached from that blog prior to it’s deletion and is not currently attached to any blog. I re-posted the question because I (apparently incorrectly) was under the impression that I was posting to the wordpress administrators, rather than the community at large. Is it not possible to talk directly to wordpress staff?

Yes it’s possible to wait for a Staff response and I will tag this thread for one.
If you delete a URL then all the content in the deleted site is gone and the only way to get it back assuming it has been indexed by search engines is to copy and paste it from Google’s cache into new posts.
http://diylibrary.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this site.http://grammarm.wordpress.com/ appears to be empty ie. devoid of any blogger created content.
http://unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com/ exists and you can import content into it if and only if you have an XML export file ot content to import into it. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-between-wordpress-com-blogs
What does this mean please?
, but a url that was unattached from that blog prior to it’s deletion and is not currently attached to any blog.
Exactly which URL starting with http:// are you referring to please?

you can’t “fix” anything – deleted is gone forever and you can’t “change” names for existing blogs – just log into unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com and start using it – change the title of the blog if you want – but you can’t mess with the URL and I am not sure why you want to change a URL to a URL that already exists

How do I ‘log in’ to a blog that has no username or password? I created it with my current account (as in the one I am logged in to in order to reply to this post), but it does not appear in my blogs section, and when I go to the link, there is no option to add posts or edit content, etc. It was never deleted, appears to exist, but I can’t do anything to edit it. Which is what I am trying to figure out how to do.

@grammarm,
unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com does indeed already exist, and that’s why you’re not being allowed to create a site under that name. It’s been owned by another user for the last three months, before this URL changing business ever happened.
Since it’s owned by a completely different user, that’s why you can’t control it.
Given that, it would seem the issue would be in what happened when you used the Change Blog Address tool.
Did you ever see any errors when going through the address change? I see where you did the site URL changes in your user records, but the tool should never have let you adjust the URL to an address already taken.
Please let me know,

@grammarm,
When you were changing your blog’s address between diylibrary.wordpress.com and unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com, were you changing the Web Address within your profile, as seen here?
https://wordpress.com/me/account
That would explain all of this. Changing that field only adjusts what URL appears when someone looks at your public profile, but does not change your blog’s actual URL/web address.
To change a blog’s address, you must use the Change Blog Address tool:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/
However, you won’t be able to change your blog to unicorninthelibrary.wordpress.com using that tool, because that blog is indeed owned by another user.
