using an existing domain
-
I want to use my existing domain name for the site I have created using WordPress, but it seems that to do that I would have to pay WordPress £84 per year, AND pay for my current hosting and domain. Is that correct?

Hi
You can map an existing domain to your WordPress.com site. You’ll need to upgrade your site to one of the paid plans. The Personal Plan gives you the option of mapping a domain, so take a look at what that option offers you.
Take a look at these support pages. They contain more information:
Aside from the cost of the Personal Plan, you’ll need to pay for your domain name registration (this is usually an annual charge).
WordPress.com sites are hosted sites so you shouldn’t need to pay for an external hosting service to maintain a WordPress.com site.

Thank you, that is helpful. I understand a bit better now.
But what about email? My current hosting includes email. Should I transfer that to WordPress too? -
Hi there,
I just want to mention that you do have the option of transferring your domain to us as well. That way you don’t need to pay another provider for the domain’s registration, as you need to do if you only map the domain here:
Transferring a domain you already own to WordPress.com
If your email hosting is included with your domain registration you might want to check with your current provider if you can still keep the email hosting should you transfer the domain, though.
Either way, you can connect your current email account to your domain once it is mapped here. Ask your current email provider for the MX and other DNS records required for your email to work. Then you can add those to your domain’s DNS at My Site ->Domains:
If you do that before switching the domain’s name servers to us, any downtime on your email during the switch should be minimal.
