Using an existing domain name – very basic questions

  My knowledge is very limited so please bear with me.

  I have a domain name registered but it is not hosted, all I use it for is email.
  I’d like to use this same domain name for my wordpress,com blog. As I understand it I have to pay for webhosting somewhere and only after that can I use the domain name for my wordpress blog. I’d really like to know if I have this right or whether there’s a way around paying for separate webhosting.

  If your domain is not hosted somewhere, then you can’t display content on it.
