using an iCalendar
-
We’ve been using google calendar for years, but recently it has failed to permit the current webmaster to access it when using different computers. Is there another free calendar program other than google that can be used in the same way on our WordPress site? We do not want to ‘upgrade’ from WP Premium.

Hi there,
I see you have Upcoming Event widgets in your sidebar, and for those, the only option is to use an iCal link from Google Calendar.
You would be able to consider other options via “plugin” functionality, but that would require upgrading to our Business plan. Before weighing that, can you tell us more about your difficulty with your current calendar links? Typically if you lose access to a specific calendar, we recommend setting up a new calendar in Google Calendar under an account you control.
Thanks for the additional info!

We’ve been using the iCal link from Google Calendar for years, but recently, when a new event is added to the calendar, it’s not showing in the sidebar. This AM, I verified that the color codes are the same, and also verified that the URL address is correct between the 2 sites. To be sure, I copied & pasted the URL from google to WP. The only event that was showing in the sidebar was suddenly removed. Any ideas on how to resolve?

It really sounds like an issue on Google’s side of things.
I would recommend reviewing the configuration settings on Google Calendar as outlined here first:
https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/upcoming-events/#getting-a-calendar-link
If the calendar was made private or made somehow inaccessible publicly, that would impact how it would display in the Upcoming Events widget.
If you still have trouble after reviewing everything on Google’s end, please provide the Google Calendar URL for your events calendar (not the .ics URL) and we’ll take a closer look.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I asked the previous webmaster for our group to check it & he found that, while the color code was right, the field option (not sure if that’s the right term) was not. We were able to correct the problem within google.
On another note, I got 2 emails today from WP stating, “We have finished exporting your site The Sussex County Bird Club! Your export files will be available for the next 7 days.” I did not attempt to export the site. I’m still waiting to hear from the previous webmaster if he did, but I don’t think so. Is there a way to check if someone unauthorized is trying to access the website?

Our logs show that your account (@webeditor2) performed that export. If you didn’t do it, then I highly recommend changing your password.
Please note that this doesn’t mean that your account has been compromised. You may have used other computers and devices to login in the past, and your account might still be logged in to those devices.

If someone else downloaded the site &/or its info, are they able to make changes to it, or create a duplicate site?
-
Forgot to ask: the notification of download went to my email address. If someone else downloaded it, does it go to their email as well? Just not sure how this happened, or how someone else can access the site.

Your site is publicly visible, so anyone can copy and download anything they want from it. But in the case of the export, it doesn’t go to any email other than yours. So, you’re the only one getting that export file.
