Using Blocks

Can we go back to the old editor and not use the Blocks?
Plus in paragraph block, there is no way we can use justified option ( there just seems to be left/right and centre align option

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi –

Yes, you can switch between editors at any point in time. Just use the ... in the upper right corner of the editing screen. When the menu appears, look for switch to the x editor that’s how you toggle between them.

As for the justified text, you should be able to use the keyboard command for your device. Example, Alt+Shift+J, and justify the highlighted text.

If the keyboard command is not working please look at, and add your report to this open issue: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/8450

Im stuck in blocks and I can’t change it. I try what you suggested, but that option is not in that menu. The only options are “Visual Editor” and “Code Editor”

Im not sure how I got switched to blocks, but it’s very frustrating. Many of the shortcuts (ie, atl-shift-2 for H2) no longer work. Slows me down and I don’t see the upside of blocks.

    Can’t switch back…

  • Hi @cortthepelzer, which site are you struggling with? I can see you have one site on our servers (it’s the one ending in .wordpress.com), and two connected sites that are hosted elsewhere.

The two sites running on other servers are different from a WordPress.com installation, so for those you’ll want to use the forums over at https://wordpress.org/support — which will likely recommend you install this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/classic-editor/

I also wanted to justify text and found one can click on select text and click on the icon for left alignment, then click on Edit as HTML in the More options (click on the 3 little dots at the end of the formatting / editing tool-bar), then change the word left to justify.

I explain it below. Mind you once you fiddle with HTML behind the scenes, you may find the WYSIWYG display or visual display of that block won’t be there, even if you have Visual Editor selected under the main options (by clicking on the 3 dots at the very top right of a blog post / page screen). This I find strange and frustrating as of course I want to see what it looks like in reality.

I know I can use Preview but it interrupts the flow of writing having blocks of HTML code and blocks of other things, plus there’s no choice for the blocks to revert to Visual Code (as some people who have used this editor have shown there was or is for them). Good luck. Here is the link.
