Using ‘Canape’ website template

Canape help!
I’ve selected the ‘canape’ template for my site. I selected customise however its slightly different from the example template.
I chose it because I like the way the ‘menu’ options give you information when you hover over them (Hors Deuvres, Mains, Desserts) and also how there’s a border around the ‘Welcome to Canape’ text.
Can someone please advise me on how I can apply these features to my site?
thank you!Site: https://nikkibogosavac.wordpress.com.

Hi there,
To clarify, you are trying to set up the homepage of your site so it looks similar to the demo homepage shown here? https://canapedemo.wordpress.com/
One thing to be aware of is that the Canape theme was released before we had a block editor, so the homepage look you see there is accomplished by using the theme settings that were created for setting this up instead.
That is why your page created with blocks does not quite look the same, the demo site was set up using our older editor, before we had blocks at all.
The info on how to set up the homepage template is found under the section: “Get Started” on this page: https://wordpress.com/theme/canape/nikkibogosavac.wordpress.com/
Please also note that this theme was designed for the needs of businesses and was not created with bloggers in mind. This may mean that some aspects of this theme will not work with blog posts. i.e. the 3 images side by side in the demo can be customized to link to any page you wish. However there is no way to have 3 blog posts appear in that area, it is for pages only.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Hi 🙂
yes exactly! The way that the introductory text has the border with the 3 images below it and the preview text that appears when the cursor hovers over the three images.
I don’t mind if the 3 images only link to the ‘blog’ page rather than the induvial posts themselves.
But is there a way to add the ‘preview hover affect’ onto the three images? I’ve tried following the ‘get started’ instructions but I can’t seem to get it to apply – is this because it needs to link to an individual page?
I’m also having issues amending the ‘testimonials’ panel on the homepage. Is it possible to edit the text without actually having a ‘testimonials’ page? And it says ‘it can be disabled via the Customiser’ but when I go in it doesn’t give me the option to do so?
Thank you very much! I so appreciate your help 🙂

I have just figured out how to remove the testimonials.
However is there a way to keep or add the coloured background to the page without the testimonials??

Hi there,
To be able to change the background color of the whole page you’ll need to use some CSS code. Please note that Custom CSS is a feature included in the Premium and Business plan and therefore you first need to upgrade to either plan before using it. You can read more about it here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/
If you decide to upgrade we can provide you with the necessary CSS code.

Hi there!
Hi im having a real issue setting my home page feature image to fit. The focal point of the image keeps getting cropped out.
How do I find the ideal image size required for the feature image so that I can amend my photo size accordingly? Please note that the way most responsive themes work, it’s expected that the featured image will be resized based on the size of the display it’s being viewed in. To illustrate this, you can open the Canapé theme’s demo site and resize the browser window to make it narrower. You’ll notice that the featured image on the homepage is resized accordingly.
That’s to say there isn’t a specific way to ‘fit’ a featured image because it’ll always be cropped in certain screen sizes. Featured images work best when they are sort of abstract (so it’s not a problem when it’s cropped). You may want to use an image that doesn’t need to be shown in full.
The Canapé theme recommends the following:
The featured image on the front page and on pages works best with images at least 1180 wide.
But it’s worth keeping in mind that even with using an image that meets those exact specs, it will still get cropped due to how responsive themes work.
Also I have updated text on the home page several times but every time I go to preview the page it has the original text.
I checked the text in your post editor and compared it to the homepage and I’m seeing that they are the same. Can you specify which text you changed? Also, have you made sure to click the “Update” button on the editor after changing the text?

Okay that all makes sense thank you.
I now have one final issue – there is a small ‘About me’ section at the bottom of my home page however when you click on image or on the ‘read more’ link it doesn’t go to my about me page but to the website customiser?
How do I fix this?
