Using Domain with WordPress.Com
-
Hi everyone,
I am new to wordpress and have recently set up a guitar blog (jamieholroyd.wordpress.com)
Sorry if this question has always been asked but I’ve looked everywhere and can’t find the answer. I am wanting to register a domain name on GoDaddy and was wondering if instead of buying hosting I could just use a GoDaddy domain with my current blog for free?
Thanks,
JamieThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The answer is “yes” you can purchase domain mapping from WordPress.com and either register a new domain or map and existing domain from a .wordpress.com blog which is being free hosted by wordpress.com.

The decision you make regarding free or paid hosting will be based on your own needs and the differences revealed in this entry > WordPress.com vs WordPress.org http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ -
Thanks for the fast reply I am just confused about “Domain Mapping is a paid upgrade that costs $12.00 per domain, per blog, per year”, do you have to pay that if you have domain registered elsewhere?

Yes. You aren’t paying WordPress.com for the blog or for hosting; they are free of charge. But if you want WordPress.com to map from your free hosted .wordpress.com free blog to a domain then, of course, you have to pay for that service and renew it annually. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
