Using "Excerpt" area for SEO

  • Unknown's avatar

Every month, we post infographics to our blog with rankings of our most popular sports teams. Because it’s a graphic, we use the “Excerpt” area to post the rankings with text. We hope this would increase our SEO as well as provide a preview below the text in posting on social media websites.

However, inserting this text into the “Excerpt” area doesn’t seem to be giving us the SEO recognition we hoped.

Does this help our SEO? If not, what’s the best way to get the SEO we should be getting? I’ve read lots of your support/articles, and they don’t seem to answer my specific question.

    Thanks.

  • It’s a good question, and I’m not sure. If you view the page source on a post, you’ll see that the information you’ve entered is listed in the og:description meta tag, so it gets indexed. But it also cuts off before the entire excerpt.

If you want to make sure all that information is indexed by Google, I’d put it in the body of your post, below the graphic. If nothing else, that way readers who use a screen reader can still read the information.
