Using external developers for custom WordPress sites

  • Unknown's avatar

We are exploring using WordPress.com as the host for an updated technology ventures website. The selected vendor Tomo360.com is concerned that they would not be able to build and deploy a highly custom site on WordPress.com. Is this correct? If not, do you have any documents I can share with them to indicate they can develop a completely custom WordPress site and move it to WordPress.com for hosting.

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

You can have a fully custom site developed on WordPress.com if you select our Business plan. With that plan, you can install plugins, third-party themes and even run custom code (Javascript, Flash, etc.). You can read more about the Business plan and how it compares to the self-hosted version of WordPress here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/business-plan/

Please note that WordPress.com is a fully managed hosting platform. This means that we take care of all the hardware and low-level system configurations and therefore you (or your developer) don’t have access via FTP or to the SQL databases.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
