Using featured images – twenty sixteen

    Hi – I’m new to this so please excuse me if this is an obvious question. I’m a bit confused about how images work, namely, how to select an image which will be used as the image in an RSS reader or website preview.

    If I upload a featured image, this will be the one shown in an RSS reader such as Feedly, yes? But when I do this, the image is displayed in a large scale at the top of my post. Is there a way to disable this, or is it a fundamental part of twenty sixteen theme?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Yes featured image will be displayed in RSS feed. I don’t think there is a customization feature in 2016 theme. Try to chose some other theme based on your requirements,

    Hi Siobhan! Lovely name. :D

    @majuphal is right that featured images will display in RSS feeds and, with Twenty Sixteen, in the header area of individual posts. There isn’t a built in way to hide the featured image (although it can be hidden via custom CSS if you upgrade to WordPress.com Premium or Business).

    If hiding the featured image is important to you (and you don’t wish to upgrade to a plan) then you may wish to consider a different theme.

    Toujours, Minnow, and Penscratch are examples of nice, minimal themes that don’t display featured images on individual posts.

    If you don’t mind the featured image displaying but your issue was more with the size that Twenty Sixteen displays it at, then something like Reddle may work better for you.

    Hope those suggestions are helpful! You can also have a browse through our repository here for further ideas.

    Thanks for your help. If anyone is having the same problem, I subscribed to a premium account and used this CSS to disable the feature image appearing:

    .post-thumbnail {
    display: none;
    }

    Perfect! I’m glad you were able to find the solution you were after and thank you for sharing it, too. :)
