Using HTML to add links to your blog?
-
I was wondering something. Can I use HTML code to create links in my blog, if I write the post up in say, notepad or a notepad type text editor first? Or do I need to use the built in HTML editor on my wordpress.com blog? What I am wanting to do is use HTML and have the link say click here or something, but I prefer to use a text editor at first to make sure all my mistakes are fixed then copy/paste the post in to the wordpress app. Will that break my HTML code? Thanks in advance, and I will understand if I don’t get an answer right away.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can do all that in the Visual view of the editor (the Classic Editor anyway from your dashboard – I assume the Blue Death Editor has a Visual / HTML (text) view)
you can use notepad if you want but that seems the hard way to me – you can switch back and forth – if you do a lot of html code make sure in the
Dashboard >> Setting >> Writing >> WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically – is checked to help prevent formatting problems
if your code is good you can switch back and forth – but not all code is ok here

Here is the problem though. I am blind so I am unsure if the visual editor etc. will work with voiceover. Voiceover is the built-in screen reader in iOS. In other words it’s the built-in screen reader on I devices. Are use my eye device, my iPhone most of the time.

Ok – makes sense now – I will flag this for the staff to see if they know how things work for readers – I have seen a bit on readers but can’t remember anything other than there is a push to make things available to everyone
yes you can write in any text editor and paste the html code into the WordPress.COM editor – just use the text side of it so the html will be preserved
Good luck with your blog

I can not find the writing setting in my settings. Not sure if it’s because of voiceover or what. Thanks for your help.
-
You are welcome – sorry I can’t be of more help
The staff should be able to set the writing setting for you – the correct invalid saves a lot of formatting problems that can mess up your entire site
Good luck

I just hope they know that they don’t have to rush to do this. It’s the holiday season I understand they’re on vacation. I’m not one of these people who say I want it done right now that’s not how I work.

um… can someone translate this? I can’t understand this… I only speak Inglish, and very little Afrikaans. I don’t know how to use the translator here. Please speak Inglish? Thanks.

Just figured out that this comment is spam, the one before my two that’s in another language. Why is someone talking about an abortion pill on a forum topic. This is crazy. You guys might want to check for spambots because I think the spambot is there. Like I said, it’s the one that’s in the other language. If you want I can get it translated for you.

The spammer got through the filter – I also flagged them as spam – they left several other identical comments in other threads – – the anti-spam is pretty good in the forum but sometimes it seems a bit stupid or slow
-
That’s OK, I’m just antiabortion so when I saw that I was like what the heck? I couldn’t figure out what that had to do with HTML code. LOL. Hopefully I can get this all figured out so I can write a post that actually looks professional. :-)

Okay I found the writing setting in the IOS app, but I do not see anything about HTML code. I see something about G.O. Tagging, but nothing about HTML code. Just wanted to update everyone. Sorry if this is spamming, I don’t mean to spam anyone.
-
Sorry if this is spamming,
Not even close – you are doing fine – you found some IOS stuff that I have never tried – so that gives the staff a bit more info for them to help you

I think there is something about HTML code in the app as you write a post, but I haven’t tried it yet. I am learning HTML, so I am not good at it yet.

Hi there,
I don’t have an iOS device, but in the Android app there isn’t an option to switch to HTML mode that I can find, so I would be surprised if it’s available in the iOS app. This means you also won’t be able to paste HTML composed elsewhere into the app editor.
If you prefer to write your links directly in HTML, I’d suggest you rather use the browser interface where you can use the HTML/Text editor mode to either compose it directly, or paste it from your text editor. And if you have a Mac computer you can use the Mac Desktop App which does have the HTML editor mode.
The browser interface should work with screen reading software, but I don’t know about the mobile app. I will follow up on this tomorrow when the people who should know about this are online.

In the IOS app there is something about HTML code I saw it. I clicked on it, and voiceover seemed to read the app better. I can’t show you, but when you click on write a post there is something about HTML. As a matter of fact, my mom who is sited saw it also.

I just wanted to clarify what that button said on the IOS app, so using the command that let’s me copy the last phrase spoken by voice-over, the button is called HTML Button As I said, when I click it, voice over seems to read the labels of buttons and controls a lot better for some reason. Not trying to say anything out of the way here, like that you guys don’t believe me, I am just trying to explain myself.

I’ve heard back from someone about this.
The iOS app can indeed be switched to a different mode that works better with Voiceover. I was told that the visual editor in the app does have problems with Voiceover, but if you switch the editor mode, as it sounds you have already done, you should be able to use it.
So your observations are completely accurate. I just couldn’t confirm myself as I don’t have an iOS device.
Just for future reference, to switch the editor mode in the iOS app, go to the Me-tab in the app, tap on Account Settings, and tap on the switch next to Visual Editor.
Please ask if you have any more questions or need more help with this.

Okay, but if I hit that HTML button, can I use HTML code in the app or not? Thanks for the tip, I’ll do that. I do notice that the app doesn’t play nice with voiceover sometimes. I use the IOS app a lot because it’s easier than booting up my laptop. Thanks so much for your help.
