Using HTML to add links to your blog?
-
What about that setting someone spoke of? Auto formatting or something? They say it has to be on, but I can’t find it in the writing setting.
-
I think you’re speaking of when auxclass wrote this:
if you do a lot of html code make sure in the Dashboard >> Setting >> Writing >> WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically – is checked to help prevent formatting problems
Is that it?
What he was referring to there is a setting you can set in the browser interface. You need to go to the WP-Admin dashboard in a web browser. That option is a checkbox that you must select.
That setting helps if, for example, you forget to add a closing tag or have multiple tags inside each other and don’t close them in the right order, but it’s not completely foolproof. It catches some common HTML errors, but it’s always better to still check through the post for errors yourself.

Okay, I still can’t find that setting. If it’s not needed though, I can handle it. Is it safe to use my blog to test my HTML code? I am just learning it, so I am far from good at it. I am just wanting to use HTML to have a link say either “click here.” Or a word/name. This seems enough of a learning curve for me. Thanks for all your help.

yes it is safe to test your html code – about the worst that can happen is the formatting can get messed up and your blog looks like a drunk did the layout (formatting errors in a Post can affect the rest of the blog) –
you should not be able to “break” your site an cause lost content or affect other sites
-
Okay I have another question, this is the last one I swear! How do I fix it if I mess up my HTML code and make my blog look… Whacky for lack of a better word. Thanks so much for helping me out, I probably will have more questions soon, be prepared to scream. Lol.
-
The setting for correcting html I mentioned above helps to keep things looking good. If things look Wacko go back an look at the last code and see if you can see what was left out or added – you can also ask for help in the forum for formatting issues
Questions are fine – no extra charge :)

But again, I cannot find that setting I looked for it it’s nowhere in the settings at all.

@catschatter
It’s the second option on the Writing Settings page in WP-Admin, not on the My Sites page. I have activated that setting for you, but in future you can find it here:

OK thank you very much I appreciate it. One more question and I’ll shut up and close this thing out if I can figure out how. LOL. Well, it’s not really a question it’s more of an observation. It’s kind of hard to edit your post with voiceover as a matter fact, I can’t edit my posts at all. There’s really nothing that can be done about that I don’t think but I wanted to let you guys know that that part isn’t really accessible. Thanks for all your help and I’ll try to close this thing out if it doesn’t close out then I’m afraid one of you will have to do it for me. :-)
-
Forum threads close automatically if no one’s posted in them for a few weeks, so you don’t need to worry about that :-)
And we really appreciate the feedback. The app currently has some problems with Voiceover, and we know that it’s something we need to work on. Hearing from someone who actually cannot use WordPress.com without a service like that helps us know where the areas are where we should place the most emphasis.
With that in mind, when you say it’s impossible to edit your posts, are you referring to the default visual editor of the app or the HTML editor, or both? It would also be helpful if you can describe your experience in a bit more detail so we can understand exactly which aspects are not working. Then I can relay that to the team who does the development work on this.
-
okay, I’ll do my best to explain this. At this point I have the Visual editor turned off, because it doesn’t play nice with voiceover. There was a typo on one of my posts, I click edit, I can get to the title field but cannot get into the field where you edit your post itself. Voiceover sees this text field, but double tapping which is what you have to do while using voice over, doesn’t do anything. I am unsure if it’s because my visual editor is off or what, but I thought I would bring this to your attention.
-
Thank you. Your description is exactly the type of thing I was looking for. I’ll make sure to relay that to the team so they can look into this.
-
can you keep me posted? You can do it Privately if you want to just tell me how to get my info to you.
-
-
thanks. Now if I could just get my blog to look interesting. LOL, at this point it’s boring. I’m working on it though. Thank you all for your help. I have one more question, at least for now, can I work on something in the WordPress editor on the iOS app little by little? Like is there a draft feature in that too?
-
The app does save your draft posts, yes, but only on your phone itself. In other words, you won’t be able to start a draft on your phone, and then continue editing it on your computer.
To save a draft post to the web manually, in the post editor open Settings. Then change the Post Status from Published to Draft, and tap Save. That will save the draft online so you’ll be able to continue editing it in your browser on your computer as well.
-
I just wanted to update you that I’ve heard back from one of our mobile developers. They tested editing posts with Voiceover on, and were able to get into the post content to edit by double-tapping in both the visual and the html editor, so perhaps there’s a different reason why it’s not working for you.
The only obvious ones we can think of is that either your WordPress app or Voiceover might not be on the latest version, so please try updating them both. If that doesn’t work we have no idea what else might be going on.
-
Unfortunately voiceover cannot be “updated by itself. It’s part of the OS. That is updated already. It might be my phone I’m not sure. I’ll have to just messed with it and see what happens.
