Using Instagram widget as blog content

    Hello,

I’m a teacher creating a WordPress blog template for a big final project for my students. I’d like them to use Instagram to record their research and practical work, and for their Instagram images to be integrated/automated as individual WordPress blog posts. Is this possible without use of a plug-in, as I can’t afford the Business plan?

    Thanks,

    simon

Hi there, can you give a bit more detail about that? Here on WordPressdotcom the only plan which allows using a custom 3rd party theme or template is the Business plan upgrade. So, the next question is, is kendalcollegefilm.wordpress.com the site you need help with?

Hi Jennifer — thanks for this. I’m a bit out of my depth. Here’s the site I was hoping to clone for my students, though I can walk them through the set-up easily enough:

    https://simonsylvesteryr1fmp.wordpress.com/

I’m using the Lovecraft theme, and while the Instagram widget appears on the sidebar, ideally I’d like it to feed to the ‘Development’ page with the photos as individual posts.

    Thank you,

Hi again, Thanks for explaining. The short answer is it isn’t possible to populate that Development page with the Instagram widget. You can, however, embed individual Instagram posts following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/instagram/instagram-images/

You might also be able to indirectly embed Instagram posts by using a 3rd party service such as IFTTT. Just be aware that method shouldn’t be the majority of posting on your site as per the ToS or User Guidelines.

Thanks again, Jennifer — I appreciate your skills and experience here!

I’ve tried the IFTTT system, and while it is quick and effective, it isn’t quite what I was after — and as you identify, the majority of posts would come from Instagram — so I think I need to think again and consider a different approach. Thanks very much for your time.
