Using iPad2 and Safari, no auto save
-
I made some edits then opened another tab in order to look something up. When I came back, my edits were gone and there were no saved versions. Unlike when I use my desktop and Firefox, there is no “Save Draft” button at the top right. Is this user error or is Safari on iPad simply not compatible with WordPress editing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Opening another tab shouldn’t cause anything to disappear in a previous tab, regardless of whether it had saved or not. In fact, I’d expect any content that was changed in the active tab to have auto-saved while you were looking at info in a new tab.
What you’re describing could happen if you navigated away from the editor in the active tab, rather than opening a new tab, before autosave could save your edits. Does that sound possible to you?
there is no “Save Draft” button at the top right
Can you please take a screen shot for me while you have the editor open with some content added to the post, please? Then upload it to your media library so I can take a look. It should show the Save Draft option in all browsers and devices.
Have you tried our iOS app? A recent update specifically optimised it for the iPad, so it might work better than Safari for you.

Kokkieh,
Thanks for responding so quickly.I have the WordPress app but in order to edit a draft (rather than just look at my sites), I seem to have to click on the “Dashboard” button and that takes me automatically to Safari. I wonder if I have the correct app? It just says “WordPress”.
It is possible I navigated away from the editor but I thought I simply made another existing tab ‘active’ and then came back to the WordPress editor tab.
Maybe tomorrow night I can figure out how to make a screen shot on my iPad (have only done that on my desktop) and then I’ll send that to you.
Thanks again, Brian

You don’t need to click on Dashboard to edit a draft. You shouldn’t need the dashboard link at all, except for a few settings that aren’t in the app but that are only available in the browser interface, but for anything regarding just editing and publishing posts the app should be sufficient.
In the app, tap the W icon, and tap on Blog Posts. You should see all your published and draft posts listed there, and you can edit them in the app by tapping the Edit button on each post.
If you downloaded the app from the iTunes store it should be ours. Perhaps try re-installing it via the link on https://apps.wordpress.com/mobile/, just to make sure.

I’m actually editing a ‘page’. I figured it out; there is a drop-down at the top of the screen (for a page or blog post) which activates: ‘Published’, ‘Draft’, ‘Scheduled’ or ‘Trashed’.
Got it–Thanks for all your help!
