Using K2 Lite design – funny button

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi! I just changed to the K2 Lite design, and there is a button (for lack of a better word) a the top that says : blog. If I scroll over, there is also a tab that says “About.” These are in the white space under my custom installed logo.

Can I get rid of these buttons? Can anyone tell me how to use or manage them?

    Thanks so much!

    Miriam

Oops..I thought it would link to my site automatically:

I see the theme switch went off without a headache. Those tabs at the top are links to your pages. I see the About one is whited out? Just remove the pages widget; there’s no need for duplication. The one that says ‘blog’ just navigates to your homepage.

It will link automatically if you remove that other site from your profile and use your blog url instead. Preferable.

Thanks! Yes, the switch worked fine, thanks for giving me the confidence to do it! Why is the “About” one whited out? I’d rather get rid of the links on the top and leave them on the side. Do you know if I can do that?

    Thanks!

You’re welcome. You can’t change those header links without the CSS upgrade and CSS skills. There’s no official support for that here. You can play with it with the CSS preview but can’t save any changes without the upgrade.

Okay…Since I have no CSS skills and no upgrade, I guess I just need to figure out how to “un-whiteout” the button “About” and then remove the pages widgit. Do you know who would be able to advise me about that?

    THANKS!!!

I made the mistake of visiting your awesome looking site and now I am starving!!!

    Thanks! You don’t want to know what’s cooling… ;)

I have no idea how to unwhiteout the About page but since it’s duplicated in your page widget, I wouldn’t worry about it. You said you prefer the page widget so you get the best of both worlds. The Blog link is the important one, imo. I always look up there first to click my way back to a homepage and I suspect most people do.

    Have a great weekend!

The “About” etc. is not whitened-out, it’s just white, because that’s the design of the k2 theme: “Blog” black on white background, other page names white on the colored background of the header. Your problem is that you replaced the original header with your logo, and your logo happens to be white where it shouldn’t. Without the CSS upgrade you cannot change the color of the “About”: you can only modify the image you have uploaded in a way that its lowest area won’t be white, so that the “About” will show properly (in which case you should then remove the Page Widget, as ellaella originally suggested). If you do that, then “Blog” will also make more sense design-wise (now it appears as a solitary little word hanging there as if by mistake).

That all makes sense. I do have some “extra” white in this logo that I will work on getting fixed if I can. Otherwise, I won’t worry about it. Thank you both for clearing this all up. These things can drive you crazy until someone who knows something gives you some direction!
