Why am I unable to ‘like’ comments on other blogs. As soon as I hit on the like it turns colour but does not increase the number and immediately bounces me out. I am logged into WordPress and used to be able to use likes and haven’t changed anything.

Hi there,
When looking at other sites, do you see the black WordPress.com admin bar at the top of the screen? If not, it means your browser thinks you’re not logged in, which would point to a problem with cookies.
Check your browser settings and make sure third party cookies are enabled. If you’re using Safari, also go to privacy settings and make sure the option “Prevent cross-site tracking” is disabled. Then clear your cookies, log back in and check if it works.
If not, can you please tell me what browser (including the version number) you’re using, and also please check if it makes any difference if you use another browser.

Hi
Thanks for trying to help me but I’m old and don’t understand how to do any of what you said. I thought it was something WordPress could do to fix on their end. I have no idea what browser is or where to find it. I did clear cookies once and the result was that I couldn’t even get comments after that for a time. I’m logged into WordPress and I’ve logged out and back in with no result (someone suggested that was like I.T unplugging it and plugging it back in). Nothing.
Sigh. People who grew up with this stuff have no idea how hard it is for those who didn’t to understand. That’s why old people who don’t have someone to help them with tech drink instead. Thanks again for trying but if I have to fix it I’m fucked. So I guess I’m fucked.

Hi there,
Can you please describe to me the icon you click to get to the internet? Does it look like a compass, like a multicolor ball, or is it like an organge fire?

I got an email asking what I use to get to the Internet. I replied I use google directly to that email. I got an email right after that from Microsoft saying the message was rejected. See what I mean? Everything is a problem and you just give up.

I don’t know what I’m doing and don’t want to take up any more of your valuable time you could be using to help someone who does. I just thought it was an easy fix by WordPress. Thank you for trying.

It sounds like an issue with your internet. Are you able to go to https://browsehappy.com/ ? If the page loads, it will tell you what browser and what version number you’re using. That information would be helpful for us in trying to figure this out for you.
If you’re using Google Chrome, try using a different browser like FireFox to see if the results are the same.
Another thing to try would be to hot spot the computer off of your cellular data network if possible. If things work, then you know the issue is with the internet.

This is not your fault and we will keep trying to get this figured out.
When I write back to this forum reply, you get an email notification about that. If you’re trying to reply to that email directly it won’t work, and could give a message as you’ve described.
Instead, try clicking on this link: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/using-like-button/
That will bring you to the forum thread directly where you can scroll down and post a reply. Try that once for me. Thanks :)

I have google but it doesn’t say chrome so who knows. I also have Safari because I have Apple products. When I go to browsehappy it says google 81 and safari 13 whatever that means. I subscribe to blogs on WordPress and the articles and comments are sent to my email. I reply to them there also. So I’m logged into WordPress but don’t have/use WP app (because that would be another nightmare and this way has worked for 4 yrs or more. Don’t spend any more time on it. I just wanted the bloggers to know when I liked their comments to encourage more interaction so if it was an easy fix fine. This is so far not easy. There are many others on the blog that say they have this problem also. I thought I would look into it and pass the info on to the other bloggers to save you repetitive requests for help but I am clearly not qualified.

Thanks for that. The good news is your browsers are all up to date, so everything. should be working.
Do you like on lots of posts one right after another? If so you’ll want to not do that. The system might think you’re spamming. If you just click like as you read through them you should be OK.
Hoping this helps!

An odd suggestion given that I’m here on the forum because I can’t “like” at all and haven’t been able to for months. I have heard from many others with the same problem who say they can’t be bothered trying to have it resolved because they have not been successful in having other WordPress issues resolved. I thought that to be an unfair assessment but am now finding the same (this one problem has been passed through several people there with no resolution). I was selective and only “liked” the odd comment while reading through, so no, I don’t see this as the issue.

No I don’t see that black bar on the blog that I am reading. I am logged into WordPress but not READING on WP. I get the comments in my email and when I reply to the comment it takes me to the blog directly and even though I am logged into WP it doesn’t allow me to like comments. When I hit the like button it turns color and temporarily bounces me off the comment and back on but doesn’t up the like count. I have even gone out and back in to the comment to see if the like count changed and it has not.

When you are logged into your WordPress.com account, you will see this back bar on top of any other WordPress.com site.
If you don’t see it, and the site you’re reading is hosted on WordPress.com, it means that your browser thinks you’re not logged in.
This may happen because lately both Google Chrome and Safari made some changes as to how they process third party cookies, which are needed to keep you logged in.So let’s try this, in your browser, look at the toolbar on top and click on Chrome and then preferences, this will open a new tab with Settings. Click on Privacy and Security and then on Site Settings. More options will appear, click on Cookies and there, make sure that “Block third-party cookies and site data” is disabled.
Once that is done, log into your WordPress.com account and try to visit any blog you usually read. Does the black WordPress.com toolbar appear now?

When I go to Google I have:
an N in a circle top right
A bar at the bottom that has home, collections, recent, and more.I don’t see the word Chrome anywhere.
Do I click on the N in a circle or More on the bottom? They give me different yet similar options.
Lets start there.

Actually, before we go there I just realized we don’t know what sites you’re working with…
even though I am logged into WP it doesn’t allow me to like comments.
Could you send links to a few comments you’ve tried to like?
