I own a domain name, but I no longer need paid hosting; my blog is just a hobby site. Can I have my domain name resolve to a free blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Currently, you may need to upgrade your plan with WordPress.com to properly transfer your domain to act as a ‘native’ domain for your blog. You can find a detailed instruction here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

In case you just want the free plan, you can always forward your domain to your blog. This would cause no problem in action, but things would be hard for you in the future, when you want to do some branding, SEO, monetizing, etc. I would recommend this way if only you have no further plan for this website.
I’ve also found out you use Google Domain as your registrar. You can find how to forward your domain name here:
    https://support.google.com/domains/answer/4522141?hl=en

    Hope this solves your problem.

  • Hi there,

Your site at texasquiltgirl.com is currently hosted with Unified Layer, not with us. So there does not exist any free WordPress.com address for that site – that only exists for sites that are hosted on our severs, not WordPress sites hosted with other providers.

What you can do is migrate your content for that site to us. But if you want to continue using the texasquiltgirl.com domain, you will also need to upgrade the new WordPress.com site to a paid plan. This will likely be cheaper than your current hosting, though.

You can see full instructions on how to transfer a WordPress site hosted elsewhere to WordPress.com here:

    ,

Please do not recommend domain forwarding in these forums. That is not the correct way to connect a domain to a WordPress.com site, nor is it a workaround we should suggest, and we do not provide support for the problems that are caused by trying to connect a domain in that way.
