I DO NOT WANT TO USE PAYPAL BUT MY OWN LIVE BUSINESS ACCOUNT WITH MY BANK IE BARCLAYS BANK MERCHANT ACCOUNT THAT ALLOWS VISA AND MASTERCARD PAYMENT. I DO NOT WANT A 3RD PARTY LIKE PAYPAL. HOW DO I USE MINE LINKED TO MY ECOMMERCE SITE?

The only payment methods that WordPress accepts are PayPal or a credit card.

What I have at the moment is my own independent website template, if this is hosted via WordPress, then it might be possible to use my own merchant plugin/payment gateway is that what you are saying?

There are 2 different versions of WordPress. Here, at WordPress.com, we offer a managed environment which includes your support and your hosting among other features.
Using the open source, community maintained, WordPress software is very different. Help with that version of WordPress comes from the volunteers at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
