  • Hi there,

If you want to use your domain with your WordPress.com site, but keep the domain registered with Google, you’ll use our Domain Connection upgrade. That upgrade requires a paid plan, but the plan includes the domain connection upgrade for as many domains as you want. You’ll never need to pay anything extra for the domain on our end – you’ll just pay the annual renewal of the plan – but you’ll need to pay Google each year to renew the domain.

If you decide to transfer the domain to us, we’ll become your domain provider instead of Google. One transfer is included in all our annual plans, and that transfer will also extend your domain registration by one year. Once the next renewal on the domain becomes due, that will be an extra payment on top of the annual renewal of the plan.

In other words, you’ll need to pay us for your plan, and you’ll also still need to pay the annual renewal of your domain. But whether you opt for a domain connection or a domain transfer will determine if you need to pay Google or WordPress.com for the domain renewal.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
