Using my own domain
-
I was on the understanding wordpress was free so after designing the website which is just a simple information database site I tried to add my own domain which I had purchased earlier and now wordpress want to charge £85. I don’t want the upgraded bits for the site just to use the website name. Am I doing something wrong as everywhere I am reading the charge £10-£13 per year for you to use your own domain.

Hi there!
In: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
it tells youDo you already own a domain name? If you would like to use it here on WordPress.com all you need to do is “map” your existing domain to your site. You will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain.
If you do not choose a plan as you go through the check-out, it selects the default of a Premium Plan which costs the £85 for you. The paid plans come with a domain credit that you can use to either buy a new domain or map your existing domain to your WordPress.Com site.
best,
dave
