Using my own domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I just purchased a Semplice license but now I’m a bit confused on how to set up my Semplice site through WordPress. I currently have a domain through AccuWeb Hosting for free as a student, so I’d like to stick with them for my domain name (unless WP can match their offer of free hosting until I graduate from in June 2020?). But the WP site setup seems to imply that I’d need to use WordPress for hosting, or pay money to use a different company?

Can someone please help clarify how I can set up my new Semplice site through WordPress? (Am I _required_ to pay extra fees? Are they monthly or one-time?)

    Thank you.

    Hi Lizz,

If you’re planning to use the theme and domain that you purchased from Semplice on the WordPress.com managed platform, you’d need to purchase a plan, you can’t use a custom domain on the WordPress.com free hosting plan. The ability to map domains and use third-party themes is a paid feature on WordPress.com.

The alternative is using the open-source WordPress.org software. With a self-hosted site, you’ll need to find a hosting provider for your site files, and you could take advantage of the free hosting offer you say you were given by the domain registrar.

WordPress.org sites also have their own forums can be found which can be found at this address:

It’s worth noting the difference between the two WordPress entities:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
