Using Page Breaks but keeping Full Story in RSS feed reader

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi folks.

We’re using page breaks again on blog posts (for several reasons) but have just realised that RSS feed reader is not getting the full post but just the same as what the front page gets.

Are there any settings to make sure the RSS feeds get the full posts whilst still using page breaks?
We’ve had many comments about having full RSS articles and have turned that on for over a year now.

    Cheers,
    Jay

I don’t think so. I’m almost certain that if you use a more tag or a next page tag, the RSS feed will break the post at that point even when set to show the full posts at settings > reading.

Well that sort of sucks for RSS reader audience. Hmmm.

Thanks for the reply. Hope wordpress give us the option. I’ll wait around see if I get complaints again (currently only about 800 RSS subscribers according to google – but still, I know a few are regular readers who like reading just from RSS)

I am not sure it works with feeds, but you might try putting your whole post into the excerpt module. It works with email subscriptions even in themes where the excerpt feature doesn’t function on the front page, or on category and archive pages.

This explains the excerpt feature, and lists themes where it works:

Oh I have found possibly a solution and thought I’d just share (as it’s just simple and should have thought of before).

Just post without the break (sending out the email) and then put the break after. This way RSS are sent with full but readers visiting directly will see compressed page breaks and won’t have to load stories they don’t want to read.
