Using plugins
-
Hello Happiness Team, I am currently using the free plan and noticed I do not have the ability to use plugins (I want the flexibility of using different fonts that are not included in the ‘custom font’ list). Is an upgrade required and if so, will I need to rebuild the site or will it simply be upgraded?
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hello slfrsn,
Thank you so much for the information. Maybe a plugin isn’t required? I just want a broader selection of supported fonts, do you know if the other plans include more fonts to select from?
Thanks! k9ss

Yes! The Premium Plan gives you access to the Custom Design feature with a wide variety of fonts from Adobe Typekit. Please see this support page for more information: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
Is this the ‘custom font list’ you were referring to? Aside from that feature there are no other ways to add custom fonts.

@k9ss
These Google fonts can be used free of charge on any themes.
https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2015/07/31/free-google-fonts/ and you will find them in the customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/If you are referring only to the text inside of your posts and pages you can make some changes without an annually renewable upgrade.
For changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the Text ie. HTML editor see http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/formatting-text-pt-5/
For changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2
To display the second row of icons, first select the toolbar toggle icon at the end of row 1 and click it. https://i0.wp.com/en.support.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/kitchensink.png
Then see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#text-colorHowever, if you want to make any font changes to blog titles or widget titles then you need the premium upgrade bundle that includes the custom design upgrade in it.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing:
