Using Portfolio template to link to groups of posts, instead of single project
-
I’d like to use the Sketch portfolio template for my homepage, but I’d prefer that the “featured projects” on the bottom of the page link to groups of tagged projects (or blog posts), rather than linking to a single post. For example, I have 3 blog posts tagged “New York.” I’d like to be able to choose a featured image for the homepage, label it “New York”, and have it link to all my posts with that tag. Possible?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Each image and title in the Sketch theme front page portfolio feature links to a portfolio project. It can not be made to link to posts, other than through CSS customization perhaps.

What you are asking for is a front page image link to a post tag archives page. The archives page containing your three posts tagged “New York” would be https://americanonda.wordpress.com/tag/new-york. Yes, you can place an image on the front page linking to it. If you only intend to use a few such image links on your front page, the construction will be quite simple. However, your initial post suggests that you might intend numerous links to tag archives pages. How should you go about constructing a front page that does that?
There are themes, like Sketch, with portfolio page template where the “grid” images link to projects. Other themes, alternately referred to as portfolio or grid-style themes, have a grid-based front page option where the images link to posts. Still others have an “grid page template” for pages where the grid images link to pages.
None of the grid-styles I’ve mentioned above will target archives pages specifically, though they might be adapted to suit your purpose with CSS customization if you’d like to go that route. There might a WordPress theme that does precisely what you’ve described, but I’m unaware of one. That doesn’t mean you can’t do what you envision. Only that it will involve more work.
You could construct tables of images, displayed in rows of three or four images, for example, on your front page. Each image may be linked to a tag archives page.

Thanks for the quick response, musicdoc1! really appreciate it. Yes, after chatting with my boyfriend who actually understands a thing or two about web development, i think i’m gonna hack myself together the table of images I want and see if I can make it work in Sketch, since I’m already hooked on the look & feel of it. Thanks again!
