Using tables in my posts
-
I used to be able to cut and paste from a word table. I realise that you don’t have that option anymore. How can I set out my information in a table format now?
Thanks,John

Hi John
You can create tables in your posts by using HTML. You need to be in the text editor to do that. Here are the codes needed to do that: http://en.support.wordpress.com/advanced-html/#tables
You can also embed tables from Word, Excel or Google Docs or create them in Windows Live Writer and insert them in you posts:

Hi and thanks for the information. I will have a try. It looks very complicated, a bit like DOS programming from the past.
I was hoping for something very simple like copying the table from Word as you used to be able to do.I will see how I go.
Thanks,

It appears that you are using tables to show scheduled events for your organization. Perhaps you’d find Google Calendar helpful instead:

Thank you for the suggestion. Our Google calendar has private and public information on it so I don't want to make it public. I use the What's on section to highlight important events that will impact on the staff. The table format that I used to be able to use was a good method of representing the information.
Thanks,John

Well, then try the LiveWriter link. I’m on a Mac so have not had the opportunity to try it, but lots of other volunteers have successfully used it over the years. http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/
Or would it not be possible to open another Google account (with a free and separate email) to use just for embedding the public calendar?
Or do give the link galois a try. It looks complicated, yes, but once you set up a basic format, then we could help you. It looks complicated like diagramming a sentence in 7th grade! but once you see the structure you’ll be able to do it!

Well, LiveWriter is only for non-Macs.
I don’t think any of the off-line editors work for us. There are free online table generators, but you don’t want those because the usually give you code that has been deprecated / no longer useful / outdated.
If you can handle justpi’s link that I gave you, then it will be a bit of a learning curve. But it will work!
I wonder though if you could make it simpler to just write your schedules with dates on top then the event. Your tables now are not really very complicated. People at our church (and my daughter’s multiple jobs) are more looking at dates and whatever is going on. if you understand what i am saying…

Thank you for help and patience. I will ask for some help with just pi's link from the IT person at school.
Thanks again,John
