Using the block editor

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having problems – my first time using the block editor. Every time I hit a new paragraph in my new blog post, it created a new block. I thought, ok, maybe this is normal. However when I tried to publish it, it only posted 3 of the 4 paragraphs. What am I missing. Thanks in advance.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, is this for listentotheanimalsblog.wordpress.com? Please give us a link to the published post and then add the MODLOOK tag in the sidebar for Staff attention so they can see if there is a problem. Thanks.

    Hello,
I am hesitating to publish it until I can get the formatting right. Is there a way to share the draft with you. I’m using the preview button.
It actually appeared to have automatically published last night, but this morning has not shown up on my blog. I am confused with this new block editing.

I also this morning went back and copied the content of the missing block to the block before it, so now it is showing. However, the formatting is not correct, it was alot of extra work, and obviously not the way it’s supposed to work. I was looking for a button that I might have inadvertently hit that hid the content of the second block. Is there one?

Let us know what post is involved and even if it is a draft and not published, Staff will be able to see it. They can’t troubleshoot if they don’t know what post to look at. :)

Ok thanks I’ll try to do that. And yes, it is for the listentotheanimals blog site. It appears in some places the new post published, but then it doesn’t appear to be published. I’ll try to add the MODLOOK in the sidebar now

OK I added it. I hope you can see how I copied the content from the missing block into the first block.
Earlier, I also took out all the color background and color type, in case that was the problem. Pretty plain vanilla now

  • Hi there,

What’s the title of the post you’re having trouble with so I can have a look? I already checked The Importance of Stretching and couldn’t find anything wrong with it.

It was that post. I needed to post it, so I just deleted the block that wasn’t appearing in the final version, rewrote everything, took the colors out and tried publishing. It was allot of extra work and confusing and I’d love to know why that block was either home or appeared as a small blank block in the preview. I ended up putting so much time into correcting the formatting that I didn’t really get the opportunity to focus on the writing. It was very frustrating and disappointing. This is the first time I’ve used my blog in years. Do you have any idea why that happened?
One other question: I changed the name of my blog and had to start over many years ago. At the time there was no way to migrate my followers from the first blog to the second. Is there a way now?

I ended up putting so much time into correcting the formatting that I didn’t really get the opportunity to focus on the writing the way I wanted to. I had to publish it because I was sending out a newsletter that had a link to the new blog and I couldn’t wait any longer on the newsletter because there were other time linked things to it. It was very frustrating and disappointing. This is the first time I’ve used my blog in years. Do you have any idea why that happened?

I have no idea why that happened, no, and as you’ve since re-written the post, there’s no way to check anymore either. Next time you get a missing block like this, please don’t change anything, and let us know so we can check while the problem is still visible.

Changing a site address should automatically migrate your followers, as it moves your entire site, exactly as-is, just to the new address.

Or did you instead create a second site and manually moved things over? What is the old address?

It has always been possible to move followers between sites, but only staff can do it manually.

Okay I tried to explain why I had to update it I waited two days for someone in the staff to look at the issue but I had a newsletter deadline with deadlines for workshops coming up and I could not wait any longer! I hope you can understand I would have much rather you looked at it and I did not have to redo the whole thing. Really frustrating!
Honestly I don’t remember how I made the second site but if you could manually move over the followers that would be great. My first blog was called the connection project. Do you need a link or can you see on my account the two blogs that I am connected with?

  • Hi –

No worries. The next time you build a post using the block editor, if something goes wrong, just come back to this thread to let us know. We will happily take a look. Leave it in draft mode – and if you need to, you can create a new post with proper formatting for publication purposes. Does that make sense?

As for moving the followers. Yes, we need a link to the old and a link to the new site as confirmation and then we can help you with that process. Thanks :)
