Using the domain 'hydraserv.NO' with WordPress

    Hi, I need to map the existing domain hydraserv.no to our WordPress.com blog, it is a domain that we have registered and purchased elsewhere. However I can not point the domain’s name servers to WordPress until WordPress register the domain with your servers (was what our domain provider told me). Can admin help us with this? I understand there might be some special rules for .no domains.

    Is there some way to contact WordPress other than in this forum? I know my post doesn’t really belong in a forum for “the public”, but is this the only way to get help?

    Hi there,

    Sorry it took so long for you to get an answer. The forum is primarily staffed by volunteers, and we only check a thread if one of them tags it for staff.

    For free users the forum is the main avenue of support, but we are working on making it easier to contact us directly as well.

    There is a bug with mapping certain top-level domains, and we’re working to fix that, but meanwhile I can help you to get that mapping upgrade added. I have added a zone record for your domain here, so can you please try mapping it again. If it still won’t work, let me know and I can add it manually for you.

    However I can not point the domain’s name servers to WordPress until WordPress register the domain with your servers (was what our domain provider told me).

    There is no technical reason why you can’t do this. In fact, we generally advise people to change the name servers before they add the domain mapping upgrade, as name server changes can take several hours to update. But your registrar might have their own policies in this regard.

    Thank you :-)

    I still get this message when trying to map: “Sorry but hydraserv.no has not been registered yet therefore cannot be mapped”.

    However I’m going to contact the domain provider again to ask them to point my domain’s name servers to WordPress. Tried to do it myself at first but soon found out I had no clue and don’t want to mess up anything.

    I appreciate all the help I can get from you.

    Thanks for trying that.

    I have gone ahead and manually added the mapping upgrade to your account. It will expire in ten days, so you can pay for the first year by renewing it from the Purchases page:
    https://wordpress.com/purchases

    Once the name servers are changed, you can then set that domain as your primary domain by going to My Sites and clicking the Domains link in the menu.

    Let me know if you need any more help with this.
